How a Passenger Was Restrained on an American Airlines Flight

A passenger was restrained on an American Airlines flight after he attempted to cause a disturbance aboard the plane, which was traveling from Dallas Fort Worth to Newark on September 3. A former security official and other passengers took action, using duct tape and a cord to tie the man down.

The 67-year-old man began shouting and hurling abuse, using discriminatory and insulting language toward the flight crew and other passengers.

He struck a nearby passenger and attempted to choke him. He also tried to bite those who tried to calm him down.

Given that his actions were excessive and could have endangered the flight, three male passengers, with the help of the crew, came together and restrained him.

After the plane landed, the police and the FBI took the man into custody to face charges. Several airlines keep special duct tape on hand to handle disruptive passengers like this, in order to ensure everyone's safety in the skies.
