A pastor of the Celestial Church of Christ, Bidemi Odukoya, killed his wife at their home in Ogooluwa, Akiode Ibogun, in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, and then killed himself.
The incident occurred at around 2:00 a.m. on August 31, 2026, following a dispute between the couple.
A neighbor said the pastor used a machete and a wooden chair to beat his wife until she died. Afterwards, he fled to the Lagos-Abeokuta road, where reports say he threw himself in front of an oncoming truck.
Reports say the couple, who had three sons, had long been experiencing domestic conflicts. The crisis is also suspected to have stemmed from mutual infidelity allegations.
The Deputy Spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Opeyemi Oluborode, confirmed the incident, stating that the state Commissioner of Police has ordered a full investigation.
He said the case has been transferred to the command's Criminal Investigation Department to determine the true circumstances of what happened.
