Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has joined the PDP and won the party’s gubernatorial ticket for Gombe State.

Pantami secured the ticket through consensus in the primary election held on Tuesday in Gombe, where the Chairman of the PDP Electoral Committee, Hon. Gregory Yenlong, declared him the sole candidate.
Speaking after being declared the winner, Pantami stated that he joined the race to serve the people of the state, promising to govern with justice and fairness if elected in 2027.
Pantami will now face Jamilu Gwamna of the APC in the gubernatorial election.
Before defecting to the PDP, Pantami had expressed dissatisfaction with how the APC selected Jamilu Gwamna as its consensus candidate. He withdrew from the APC primary due to what he called a lack of transparency and fairness in the process.
However, before the PDP primary, four other gubernatorial aspirants in the party opposed Pantami’s inclusion, arguing that the law does not permit someone who participated in another party’s primary to go through a similar process in another party after the election had already been concluded.
