White House Proposes NDAs for All US Federal Workers

The White House has proposed requiring all United States federal employees to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), a move that has sparked debate over government transparency, national security, and workers’ rights.

According to reports, the proposal is aimed at tightening control over sensitive government information and preventing unauthorized leaks from federal agencies. Officials supporting the measure argue that classified materials and internal government discussions must be better protected.

The proposed policy would reportedly apply to millions of federal workers across various departments and agencies, including both civilian employees and some contractors working with the government.

Critics, however, say the plan could discourage whistleblowers from exposing corruption, misconduct, or abuse within government institutions. Civil rights groups and labor organizations have warned that broad NDA requirements may create fear among workers and weaken accountability in public service.

Supporters of the proposal insist that the agreements are intended only to safeguard confidential information and national security matters, not to silence legitimate complaints or legal reporting of wrongdoing.

The debate comes amid increasing concerns in Washington over leaks of sensitive information, cybersecurity threats, and political tensions surrounding government operations and oversight.

Legal experts say any nationwide NDA policy for federal workers would likely face court challenges over constitutional protections, freedom of speech, and whistleblower laws.
