Tanker on Fire in Strait of Hormuz After Being Hit by Projectile off Oman

A commercial tanker caught fire after being struck by an unidentified projectile while sailing off the coast of Oman near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The incident has raised fresh concerns over maritime security in one of the world's busiest energy shipping routes.

Maritime authorities said the vessel caught fire after the impact, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or environmental damage. Emergency response teams were dispatched, and the crew was reported to be safe as efforts continued to secure the tanker and investigate the incident.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency confirmed that a tanker had been struck by an unknown projectile east of Limah, Oman. While no group immediately claimed responsibility, the incident comes amid heightened regional tensions and follows reports from U.S. officials alleging attacks on commercial shipping in the area.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global shipping lane through which a significant share of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas exports pass. Any disruption in the waterway can affect global energy markets and increase geopolitical tensions across the region.
