NDLEA Arrests Elderly Nigerian Woman Based in UK With Cocaine

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 67-year-old elderly Nigerian woman based in the UK, Mary Yetunde Barek, after 13 kilograms of cocaine were discovered hidden in banana peels inside her luggage at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said the woman was arrested while preparing to board a Virgin Atlantic flight to London, where she admitted that the cocaine belonged to her.

Similarly, the agency arrested a postgraduate student at Putra University in Malaysia, Nwabueze Felix Onyeka, in Anambra State, after discovering 5.8 kilograms of cocaine hidden in Orijin Bitters drink cartons destined for Malaysia.

In separate operations, the NDLEA also arrested several individuals in Taraba, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Plateau, and Gombe states, seizing large quantities of tramadol, methamphetamine, and cannabis.

NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retired), commended the agency's officers for their achievements and ordered them to intensify efforts in the fight against drug trafficking across the country.
