The Nigerian Army has warned residents of the North-East region about the possibility of suicide bombings and explosive attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters during the Eid al-Kabir celebrations.
In a statement released by the Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator, it said credible intelligence reports indicate that fighters from both groups may use the Eid al-Kabir festivities to launch attacks on civilians, especially in areas where people gather for celebrations.
The statement added that the army has deployed its troops to key vulnerable locations across all sectors of the region, while intelligence-gathering devices have been put in place to track any threats and support ongoing security operations.
Furthermore, the statement said patrols have been increased, along with collaboration between security personnel, other agencies, the JTF, and volunteer groups, to prevent any security breaches during the Eid al-Kabir celebrations.
The army also advised residents of the region to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movement, especially at night and in areas without security presence.
The statement also urged the public to observe Eid prayers and other festivities near their homes, avoid large gatherings, and promptly report any suspicious persons or movements, or any unattended objects, to security agencies.
The army assured residents that its troops are fully prepared and on standby, with comprehensive plans to prevent fighters from carrying out attacks throughout the Sallah celebration period.
The army stated that it has positioned its troops with surveillance equipment to thwart any threats.
