On a day like this, the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah, in the 10th year after Hijrah, on Mount Arafat (the Day of Arafah), Prophet Muhammad (SAW) delivered a deeply moving sermon.
The Most Noble Creation began by saying:
*"O people, lend me your attentive ears, for I may not be among you after this year. So listen carefully to what I am telling you, and convey (what I say) to those who are not here today.
*O people, just as you hold this month (of Hajj), this day (of Arafah), and this city (of Makkah) as sacred and inviolable, so too must you hold the life and property of every Muslim as sacred and worthy of protection. Return the items entrusted to you to their owners. Do not wrong others, lest you be wronged in return.
*Know that Allah will certainly recompense you for your deeds. Allah (SWT) has forbidden usury (interest), therefore, any matter involving interest is to be annulled.
*Beware of Satan, for the sake of preserving your religion. He has despaired of leading you astray in major matters, so do not follow him in minor ones.
*O people, you have rights over your wives, and they have rights over you. Your obligation is to provide for them and clothe them with kindness. Treat them well and be gentle with them, for they are your partners and helpers. It is their duty not to befriend anyone you dislike, and to remain chaste.
*O people, worship Allah (SWT) devotedly, establish the five obligatory prayers, fast during Ramadan, give Zakat, and perform Hajj if you are able.
*Know that every Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. You are all equal. No one has superiority over another except in piety and good deeds.
Remember, O people, that one day you will stand before your Lord."
