Yesterday, Thursday, thousands of people from Jigawa State and other parts of Nigeria including traditional rulers, politicians, dignitaries, and members of the public began gathering to attend the funeral prayer of the late Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Sani II, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 85.
The funeral prayer was held at the late Emir's palace in Gumel on Friday afternoon, September 4, 2026, following his death in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday, September 3, after an illness.
Born in 1942, the late Emir of Gumel spent many years leading the Gumel Emirate, preserving its traditions, history, and community values.
Among the prominent dignitaries present at the funeral was Vice President Kashim Shettima, who led the presidential delegation, alongside the Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi.
Furthermore, the governors of Kano and other Northern states, senior politicians, government officials, and traditional rulers including emirs from Kano, Jigawa, and other emirates attended the funeral to pay their final respects and offer prayers for the deceased.
Reports stated that the town of Gumel was engulfed in mourning as residents and visitors from various places gathered to bid farewell to the late ruler.
The late Emir is survived by approximately 33 children 21 sons and 12 daughters as well as numerous grandchildren.
Speaking at the funeral, Vice President Kashim Shettima prayed for God to forgive the deceased, grant him mercy and eternal rest, and reward him for his good deeds.
Shettima also prayed for God to give the bereaved family, the people of the Gumel Emirate, and the government and residents of Jigawa State the fortitude to bear this great loss.
