President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that the security challenges in the North-Central region cannot be resolved solely through military force or the efforts of any single agency.
Tinubu made the statement at the 2026 North-Central Security Summit held in Makurdi, Benue State, where he emphasized the need for collaboration among the government, security personnel, and local communities to achieve lasting peace.
He added that the security situation has become complex because criminals are able to cross state and local government boundaries to carry out their acts at will.
Furthermore, he stated, “No single agency, no single tier of government, and no single community can secure this region on its own; everyone must come together.”
The President also urged traditional and religious leaders to help identify emerging problems before they escalate into full-blown conflicts, while calling on the public to regularly supply intelligence to security forces concerning criminal activities.
Tinubu noted that while military force can contain violence, it cannot resolve the root causes driving the conflicts—such as disputes over land and water, climate change, and the proliferation of illicit arms.
