The Federal Government has launched an initiative named “Hire from Nigeria” to enable citizens of the country to work for international companies and foreign employers.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Monday, August 31, 2026, during a press conference at his office in Abuja.
Idris stated: “The launch of this initiative is a crucial step in Nigeria's efforts to position one of our country's greatest assets our people at the forefront of our global economic engagement.”
He added that Nigeria’s youth demographic, vast pool of skilled professionals, and growing technology sector enable the country to compete favorably in the global economic arena.
Idris said: “The future of Nigeria’s economy will increasingly rely on skill, innovation, technology, and the drive of our people. Nigeria is ready to compete on the global stage. Skilled Nigerians are ready to work, and the world should pay attention to Nigeria.”
He further stated that the campaign brings together the Federal Ministries of Industry, Trade and Investment, and Education, along with NATEP, iDICE, and the private sector, to connect skilled Nigerians with global talent recruiters.
He noted that the campaign aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Federal Government's target to create one million jobs through outsourcing.
“A young Nigerian does not need to leave the country to participate in the global economy. Given the right skills, infrastructure, professional standards, and market access, Nigerians can live, work, and earn right at home while delivering services to clients and employers across the globe,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, stated that his ministry is enhancing the skills of Nigerians by improving curricula, vocational training, digital skills, and aligning training with industry requirements.
“The goal of the Ministry of Education is that wherever talent is needed globally, we want Nigerians to be trained, certified, and ready for employment,” he said.
On her part, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, stated that the campaign will assist in job creation for Nigerian youth, boost service exports, and attract investments.
“The ‘Hire from Nigeria’ initiative is more than just an awareness campaign; it is a strategic national initiative designed for economic growth,” Oduwole said.
She stated that the campaign will be presented at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, where Nigeria will highlight the benefits of hiring Nigerians to global employers.
Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant on Strategic Communications and NATEP, Mrs. Olajumoke Dan-Okayi, said the program will address the hurdles preventing skilled Nigerians from accessing global opportunities.
She stated: “Skill is not the issue, nor is ambition. The issue is visibility, trust, and global market access. Therefore, the ‘Hire from Nigeria’ campaign has three simple pillars: make Nigeria easy to find, make Nigerian talent easy to trust, and make Nigerians easy to hire.”
The campaign is expected to connect skilled Nigerians with employers, talent search firms, investors, and foreign markets.
