A former member of the House of Representatives, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to reopen investigations and prosecute former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over allegations of financial crimes.
Agbonayinma, through his lawyer Hannibal Uwaifo of Sagitarian Law Firm, has given the EFCC a 14-day ultimatum to take action on the request.
In a letter dated August 27 and received by the EFCC on September 1, the lawyer stated that the request stems from an investigation and report previously conducted by the EFCC into allegations involving Atiku between 2005 and 2006, when he held the position of vice president.
Agbonayinma urged the agency to review the matter and take appropriate action based on the findings of the earlier investigation.
Atiku, who is currently one of the prominent politicians vying for Nigeria's presidency, is the presidential candidate of the ADC for the 2027 elections.
The EFCC had not stated its position on this new request at the time of this report.
