At Least 37 Feared Dead After Inhaling Toxic Fumes During Suspected Oil Theft in Southern Nigeria

At least 37 people have reportedly died after inhaling toxic fumes during a suspected attempt to steal petroleum products from an oil pipeline in southern Nigeria.

A local environmental advocacy group said the incident occurred at a jetty in Rivers State while petroleum products were being transferred.

Reports also indicate that several people remain missing following the incident.

The police have confirmed that lives were lost but said the exact number of people who died or were affected has yet to be determined.
