Pakistan says it has made significant progress in talks aimed at ending the Iran-US war, following a high-level diplomatic mission to Tehran.
Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other senior Iranian officials. The discussions focused on preventing further escalation, finding a negotiated end to the conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Naqvi said the meeting was highly constructive and that Iran’s president openly presented his government’s position and concerns. Pakistan is seeking to revive an earlier US-Iran memorandum of understanding that it helped mediate.
However, no final peace agreement has been announced yet. The talks come amid continued tensions, including new US sanctions against Iran and warnings from Tehran about possible retaliation.
Pakistan’s latest diplomatic effort is therefore being seen as an attempt to break the deadlock and create a path toward ending the conflict while restoring normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
