The National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has criticised the list of individuals unveiled by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to lead President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
The list was released on Saturday, with former Zamfara State Governor Abdul’aziz Yari named as the campaign council chairman. However, the development has sparked widespread debate across the country.
In a statement, Kwankwaso described the list as “a cause for concern for Nigerians who are facing hardship across the country.”
He expressed particular concern over the inclusion of certain individuals, alleging that serving heads of government agencies had been drawn into the campaign structure, including the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Dr Zacch Adedeji, and the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Tanimu Kurfi.
Kwankwaso said the leadership of key government institutions required individuals who were impartial and enjoyed the confidence of the public.
“I urge Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, who has agreed to lead the campaign team, to reconsider the decision and change his mind,” Kwankwaso said.
