The Nigeria Immigration Service, headquartered in Abuja, has issued a new announcement suspending the issuance of new passports and other travel documents in 6 Northern states and 4 other states.
The letter of the announcement was first seen this morning, Tuesday 04/08/2026. The letter, which was dated Monday 03/08/2026 and bears the signature of Deputy Comptroller TO Olaiya, on behalf of the Comptroller General.
The letter contained the message that, from yesterday Monday 03/08/2026 to Monday 10/08/2026, the Service has prohibited 10 of its offices from issuing new passports and other travel documents, and has ordered all these offices to forward applications to the National Passport Headquarters until the said date of 10/08/2026.
The offices barred from issuing new passports include 6 offices in Northern states out of the 10 states affected. The offices include:
1. Farm Center Office
2. Dawakin Kudu Office
3. Jalingo
4. Gombe
5. Yola
6. Bauchi
And the other four that are from other parts of the country are: Port Harcourt, Uyo, Calabar, and Yenagoa.
For now, many people in the North see this as another political ploy. They believe this has further plunged the northern part of the country into a difficult situation. Because now a person cannot get a passport without going to Abuja or Lagos, instead of being able to do it nearby here in the North, and in peace.
