At least 25 people have been killed in two separate attacks linked to gang and drug-related violence in Honduras, marking one of the deadliest days the country has experienced in recent months.
According to reports, 19 people were killed after heavily armed gunmen attacked a palm plantation in the northern region of Trujillo. Witnesses said the attackers opened fire indiscriminately on workers at the site.
In a separate incident near the Guatemalan border, six police officers and one civilian were killed during a confrontation between anti-drug security forces and suspected drug traffickers.
Honduran authorities said the attacks appear to be connected to organized criminal groups, drug trafficking networks, and territorial disputes involving routes used for narcotics smuggling and agricultural operations.
Following the violence, security agencies announced plans to launch major operations in the affected areas to capture those responsible and restore order.
Honduras continues to struggle with gang violence, organized crime, and drug trafficking despite ongoing government efforts to improve national security and reduce homicide rates across the country.
