Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names of their candidates for the 2027 general elections, according to a report by BBC Hausa published on July 12.
The electoral commission said political parties now have until midnight on July 14 (Nigerian time) to complete the submission of their candidates' names.
INEC explained that the extension followed a request from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), after several political parties reported difficulties uploading their candidates' details to the commission's online nomination portal.
According to the commission, the additional time will enable political parties to complete the nomination process without unnecessary challenges while ensuring full compliance with the provisions of Nigeria's Electoral Act.
Nigeria is scheduled to hold the presidential and National Assembly elections in January 2027, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are expected to take place in February 2027.
