The Delta State SafeCity Security Service, in collaboration with officers of the state police command, arrested a notorious and wanted criminal named Abubakar Usman.
He was arrested following the kidnapping of a woman named Blessing Chiedu, a native of the Umunede Kingdom, who was abducted on July 2, 2026, along the Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of 100 million Naira from her family.
The spokesperson for the SafeCity Security Service, Harrison Gwamnishu, disclosed this in a message posted on his X account on Wednesday.
According to him, once he received the report of the incident, he notified the relevant authorities, and the anti-kidnapping unit of the Delta State Police Command in Asaba, led by CSP Osakpolor, swung into action.
He said that through the use of the Hydra Tech Surveillance System, the security operatives launched a joint rescue operation, successfully rescuing Blessing Chiedu unharmed and without any injury along the Ubulu-Unor/Ashama Road.
After her rescue, the security operatives continued pursuing the fleeing kidnappers until dawn on Wednesday, when the surveillance system detected their hideout in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta forest in Delta State.
Gwamnishu said, "An exchange of gunfire took place between the security operatives and the kidnappers, during which the combined team of operatives successfully overpowered the criminals. One of the most wanted suspects, Abubakar Usman, was arrested, while other members of the gang escaped into the forest with their weapons."
He added that investigations revealed that Abubakar Usman and his gang were responsible for carrying out numerous kidnapping attacks in the Igbodo, Umunede areas and other neighbouring communities, where they collected millions of Naira in ransom from the families of their innocent victims.
