Yoweri Museveni Sworn In for Seventh Term as Uganda’s President

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has been sworn in for a seventh term in office, extending his rule to nearly four decades as the leader of the East African nation. The swearing-in ceremony took place in Kampala on Tuesday, attended by government officials, foreign dignitaries, and supporters from across the country.

Museveni, who is 81 years old, first came to power in 1986 after leading a guerrilla war that overthrew the previous government. Uganda’s electoral commission declared him the winner of the January presidential election with more than 71 percent of the vote. However, opposition parties alleged that the election was marred by intimidation, irregularities, and suppression of political opponents.

In his inauguration speech, Museveni promised to continue focusing on economic growth, poverty reduction, and national stability. He also highlighted Uganda’s plans to expand its oil sector, which the government believes could significantly boost the country’s economy in the coming years.

Despite his long-standing leadership, debates continue over Uganda’s political future and democratic process. There has also been growing speculation that his son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who currently serves as the country’s military chief, could eventually succeed him as president.
