Sudan Medical Group Says RSF-Affiliated Fighters Killed 27 Civilians

A Sudanese medical organization has accused fighters affiliated with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of killing at least 27 civilians during attacks on villages in central Sudan.

According to the Sudan Doctors Network, the attacks took place in the al-Murrah area west of Barah town in North Kordofan during the second day of Eid al-Adha celebrations. The group said elderly people were among those killed and described the assault as a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

The medical group stated that the targeted villages reportedly had no military presence at the time of the attack, accusing RSF-linked fighters of directly targeting civilians.

There was no immediate official response from the Rapid Support Forces regarding the allegations. However, the paramilitary group has repeatedly denied accusations of targeting civilians during Sudan’s ongoing civil war.

Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023, when fighting erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF. The war has caused one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, displacing millions of people and leaving large parts of the country facing hunger, disease outbreaks, and the collapse of healthcare services.

Human rights organizations and international observers have accused both sides in the conflict of committing war crimes, including killings of civilians, sexual violence, and attacks on hospitals and aid workers.
