Israel has claimed that it killed the head of the military wing of Hamas during an airstrike in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military said the strike targeted a senior Hamas commander during an operation aimed at locations allegedly used by the group’s fighters in Gaza.

Israeli security officials described the figure as one of the top leaders of Hamas’s military wing, saying he played a major role in planning attacks and coordinating militant operations in the region.

However, Hamas had not officially confirmed the death at the time reports emerged. The group accused Israel of continuing attacks that have killed civilians and destroyed homes and infrastructure across Gaza.

Reports from Gaza said the airstrike also caused additional casualties and injuries, while rescue workers continued searching through the rubble of damaged buildings.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in heavy loss of life and widespread destruction since the latest war in Gaza began, drawing concern from international governments and human rights organizations.
