Cuba has declared that it has a “legitimate” right to defend itself in response to what it described as increasing threats and pressure from the United States.

Cuban government officials said the country would take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, national security, and political independence amid rising tensions with Washington.

The statement came after recent remarks from U.S. officials criticizing Cuba’s government over human rights concerns, political repression, and its relationships with countries considered adversaries of the United States.

Cuba accused the U.S. of continuing a long-standing policy of interference and economic pressure, including sanctions that Havana says have severely affected the country’s economy and daily life for ordinary citizens.

Officials in Havana insisted that Cuba remains committed to peace and diplomacy but warned that the country would not tolerate threats against its territorial integrity or internal affairs.

Relations between the United States and Cuba have remained strained for decades, with disagreements over politics, economic sanctions, migration, and foreign policy continuing to fuel tensions between the two countries.
