Saudi Arabia has become the first country to successfully remove a brain tumor using artificial intelligence (AI) robotics. A hospital in Riyadh recently achieved a first-of-its-kind success by removing a (brain) tumor using AI robotics. This was highlighted as a recent breakthrough on their website.
On October 20, 2025, the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Riyadh announced that they had successfully performed the world's first such procedure.
The one-hour surgery was performed on a 68-year-old patient. Using robotics, guided by a sophisticated 3D visual monitoring system, allowed for the removal of a 4.5-centimeter-long tumor.
The patient was discharged within 24 hours,which is a faster recovery time than typically seen.
