Russian forces launched missile and drone attacks across several regions of Ukraine, killing at least three people and damaging industrial and critical energy infrastructure, according to Ukrainian officials. The attacks also left nearly 100,000 residents without electricity.
The strikes came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in New York to attend the UN General Assembly and meet with US President Donald Trump. Their discussions are expected to include efforts to reduce attacks on energy infrastructure and possible steps toward ending the war.
Zelenskyy has said Ukraine is prepared to halt attacks on Russian energy facilities if Russia stops targeting Ukraine's energy sector, critical infrastructure and food exports. The proposal is aimed at creating reciprocal de-escalation between the two sides.
Ukraine is also seeking additional air-defence systems, including Patriot interceptors, as Russian missile and drone attacks continue. The issue is particularly important as Ukraine prepares for winter, when damage to power and heating infrastructure could have a major impact on civilians.
