Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has met Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Tehran as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to rise.
The meeting came as Pakistan and Qatar step up diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and reviving stalled negotiations between Tehran and Washington. Naqvi’s visit to Tehran was his sixth since the conflict involving the US and Israel began in February.
During the meeting, Pezeshkian called for stronger relations between Iran and Pakistan, saying that increased US pressure had encouraged greater cooperation among Islamic countries. Pakistani officials said the discussions also covered regional developments and bilateral relations.
According to Pakistani sources, Iran has shown some willingness to return to dialogue with the United States. Tehran has reportedly communicated conditions for restarting talks, including an end to fighting, the release of frozen Iranian assets and an end to the US naval blockade.
The talks come as Washington and Tehran remain far apart on several issues, while regional tensions continue to affect shipping and energy supplies. Pakistan is seeking to use its contacts with both sides to help revive diplomacy and reduce the risk of further escalation.
