A court in Manchester, Britain, has sentenced a 36-year-old Nigerian, Babatunde Odutola, to 44 weeks in prison after he pleaded guilty to indecent exposure in public and breaching a court order.
The British Transport Police (BTP) said Odutola, who has no fixed address, committed the offence on a train travelling from Cheshire to Manchester Piccadilly at about 7 p.m. on September 11, 2026.
According to the agency, Odutola approached a woman on the train, where he kept staring at her in a manner that caused alarm. After she refused to respond to him, he brought out his private part and committed indecent acts while sitting on a wheelchair, also calling the woman to come close to him.
A passenger helped the woman get out of the train carriage after she became distressed as a result of what happened.
The BTP said CCTV footage showed that Odutola continued doing what he was doing while other passengers passed by. Security officials later arrested him after the train arrived at Manchester Piccadilly station.
On September 14, three days after the incident, Odutola appeared before Manchester Magistrates' Court, where he pleaded guilty to one count of outraging public decency and to breaching a suspended sentence order.
The agency said Odutola is on the sex offenders' register, and that this was not the first time such an allegation had been made against him.
A BTP officer, Leonidas Christoforou, said the woman was alone at the time the act was committed against her, describing the incident as terrifying.
He said that although Odutola denied the allegation during police questioning, CCTV footage and witness statements provided evidence that confirmed the allegation.
The court sentenced him to 44 weeks in prison.
The BTP urged passengers who experience or witness such behaviour on trains to report it to the agency by sending a text message to 61016, so that security officials can take prompt action.
