The Senator for Kano Central and Deputy Minority Whip in the Senate, Senator Hon. Dr. Rufai Sani Hanga, has announced his resignation from the opposition party, the NDC.
His resignation letter from the NDC party was seen in a letter dated 3rd August, 2026, which he sent to the party chairman of Dakata Ward in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State. In the letter, Hanga said his resignation takes effect immediately.
Hanga stated that he took this step after long consideration and deep thought. He added that he is leaving the party to focus on other aspects of his life and on the advancement of his career.
The Senator expressed his gratitude to the party leaders at the ward level, the executive committee, and all NDC members for the support they gave him, as well as the cooperation he received while he was in the party.
Hon. Rufa'i also requested that his name be removed from the party membership register at the ward level, and he stated that he has returned his NDC party membership card along with the letter he sent.
The Senator wished the party and its members well, and prayed for success in all their future endeavors. However, in the resignation letter he sent, Hanga did not mention any political party he intends to join.
