This afternoon, it was reported that the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmad Tinubu, gave an urgent directive to the EFCC to quickly return to court to overturn the court order that gave the Commission the power to freeze Osun State’s account.
The EFCC obtained court approval on Wednesday, 5th August to block the Osun State Government’s treasury account, despite the fact that the state election is scheduled for this coming Saturday.
However, the President was not pleased with the decision made by the Court in conjunction with the Commission, especially as fingers are being pointed at him. Some even believe that any order or action by any federal agency is directly traced back to the President. This is why he gave the directive to urgently go back to court to have the ruling vacated and to unfreeze the state’s treasury account so that preparations for the upcoming election can continue.
It was this directive that prompted the opposition leader and ADC presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who is also a former Vice President, to speak out. He said that the President should, in the same way, intervene and secure the release of Malam Nasir El-Rufai from ICPC custody, where he has been detained for weeks since he clearly has the power to do so, as this one has shown.
