The Kurdistan Region of Iraq wants to remain neutral and avoid being drawn into conflicts involving other countries in the Middle East, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has said.
Barzani said the region does not want its territory or people to become involved in regional military confrontations. He stressed that maintaining security and stability in the Kurdistan Region is a priority for its authorities.
His comments come amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, with several countries and armed groups involved in ongoing conflicts and military confrontations. The Kurdistan Region has previously faced security challenges because of its location and the presence of various armed groups in and around its territory.
Barzani called for the region's right to security and stability to be respected, while emphasising the importance of dialogue and diplomatic efforts to resolve regional disputes.
The Kurdish authorities are particularly concerned that any escalation could threaten civilians, disrupt economic activity and undermine the relative stability the region has maintained in recent years.
