Iran has announced that its negotiations with Oman over the Strait of Hormuz are in their final stages, raising hopes of an agreement that could ease regional tensions and restore confidence in one of the world's most important shipping routes.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the talks have made significant progress, but stressed that a final agreement has not yet been reached. He noted that even if a deal is concluded, the Strait of Hormuz will not immediately return to normal operations, as discussions continue over future security and shipping arrangements.
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital waterway through which a large share of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas exports pass. Any disruption to traffic through the strait can affect global energy supplies, increase oil prices and disrupt international trade.
The negotiations come after US President Donald Trump announced a pause in further military strikes against Iran to allow diplomatic efforts to continue.
