The United Nations has issued a “red alert” over what it describes as a worsening human rights catastrophe in El-Obeid, warning that civilians are facing increasingly severe dangers.

UN officials said the situation is marked by intense fighting, reports of civilian casualties, widespread displacement, and growing shortages of food, clean water, and medical supplies. They warned that the humanitarian crisis continues to deteriorate as access to affected communities remains limited.

The organization called on all parties involved in the conflict to protect civilians, respect international humanitarian law, and allow humanitarian agencies safe and unhindered access to deliver emergency assistance.

Human rights experts have also expressed concern over reports of attacks on civilian infrastructure, restrictions on aid delivery, and alleged violations of international law. They stressed that those responsible for any abuses must be held accountable.

The crisis in Sudan has displaced millions of people and created one of the world's most serious humanitarian emergencies, with the UN urging the international community to increase support for relief efforts and work toward a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
