President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his delight over the success achieved by security operatives in rescuing students and their teachers who were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after spending 56 days in captivity.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the military, the DSS, and the police for carrying out the rescue operation without any loss of life on the part of the hostages.
The President stated that some of the terrorists who committed the crime were killed, while eight individuals were arrested, and he promised that the government would ensure that those responsible for the murder of Mr. Oyedokun and the abduction of the students are brought to justice.
Reports indicate that security forces killed at least nine gunmen and arrested eight others during a joint operation based on intelligence provided by the DSS.
At least 45 students and teachers were abducted following an attack by gunmen on three schools in the Ogbomoso area of Oriire Local Government on May 15, during which two people lost their lives. Tinubu also directed emergency response agencies and the Oyo State government to provide medical care and urgent support to the rescued individuals.
