Speedboat Accident in Southern Vietnam Kills 15 Indian Tourists

At least 15 Indian tourists were killed after a speedboat capsized off Phu Quoc Island in southern Vietnam, authorities said. The accident occurred while the vessel was returning from a sightseeing trip near Hon May Rut Ngoai Island.

Speedboat Accident

The speedboat was carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members when it overturned in rough sea conditions. Rescue teams, including border guards, the navy and the coast guard, rushed to the scene. Despite difficult weather, 21 people were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Many of the victims were reportedly trapped inside the overturned boat.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the families of the victims and said officials from the Indian Embassy in Vietnam were working with local authorities to assist survivors and arrange support for those affected. Reports said the tourists were employees of a private mobile phone company attending an annual corporate event in Vietnam.

Vietnamese authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, although initial reports suggest that strong winds and high waves may have contributed to the speedboat capsizing. Phu Quoc is one of Vietnam's most popular tourist destinations, attracting visitors with its beaches and island excursions.
