he Oyo State Police Command has rescued a couple who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in Tiro Village, Irawo, in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State.The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to the statement, the victims, identified as Alhaji Busiru Booni and his wife, Alhaja Pitiku, were abducted late on Saturday, July 5, 2026, when about five armed men reportedly invaded Tiro Village, fired sporadically into the air and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
Olayinka said the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, immediately directed a coordinated search-and-rescue operation involving police operatives, the Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, local vigilantes and hunters.
“During the operation, a Bajaj motorcycle earlier reported stolen was recovered abandoned in a nearby bush, providing a significant breakthrough in the rescue effort.
“The recovered motorcycle, coupled with the deployment of technological leverage, enabled the joint security team to identify the hideout of the hoodlums,” the statement read.
The spokesperson said the suspects opened fire on sighting the advancing security operatives, leading to a gun duel
