One person has lost their life while several others are missing after a boat carrying about 40 passengers, mostly women and children, capsized in the village of Malamawa, located in the 'Yan Dutse district of Ringim Local Government Area in Jigawa State.
The spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shi'isu Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident, stating that one body has been recovered, while rescue operations and searches for the remaining missing passengers are ongoing.
He said security personnel, rescue workers, and volunteers are continuing search efforts to locate those still unaccounted for.
Similarly, the Ringim Emirate confirmed the accident, stating that it resulted in loss of lives, though the exact number of deaths and those rescued has not yet been determined.
Currently, rescue operations are continuing, while authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
