The president of Spain's La Liga, Javier Tebas, has accused FIFA of taking measures that could damage football, following discussions to expand the 2030 World Cup to 64 teams.
In an interview with an Italian sports newspaper, Tebas stated that FIFA is prioritizing a tournament that lasts only 40 days, while disregarding domestic leagues that provide thousands of jobs worldwide.
He also said that FIFA's leadership under Gianni Infantino has failed, adding that it is time for him to step down as president of the organization.
Tebas emphasized that domestic leagues are what sustain football, calling for a reduction in the number of teams participating in the World Cup and for greater protection of domestic competitions. He accused FIFA of making decisions without considering their negative impact on the sport.
