The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has accused the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, of violating the court's conditions for his medical leave while in its custody.
In a statement issued by the commission's spokesperson, John Odey, the ICPC said El-Rufai refused to appear in court on the first day of his trial, instead seeking to see his personal physician, Professor Bello Abubakar.
The commission stated that after the court approved the medical visit, its officials escorted him to a section of the National Hospital in Abuja. However, it later discovered photos posted on Facebook showing El-Rufai with other visitors, including politician Isa Ashiru Kudan and his doctor, which it said deviated from the purpose of the medical visit approved by the court.
The ICPC said it would inform the court of what it described as a breach of court orders, adding that it has arrested Professor Bello Abubakar on allegations of giving false information, and that investigations into him are ongoing.
The commission emphasized that it would continue to respect the law, but would not condone the misuse of the leniency it extends in an improper manner.
