On Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa explained how they apprehended a 25-year-old young woman who is accused of cutting off her boyfriend’s genitals because she suspected that he deceived her.
After they succeeded in arresting her, the officer released the interrogation they had with the young woman where she stated that:
"My name is Maimunatu Idris, I am from Maigatari town in Jigawa State which borders Kano. I came to Kano for a ceremony, and that’s where we met in a private place.
We were chatting and then he said his head was paining him, so I told him to get up and we should go get medicine. That’s what we did we went out, got the medicine and came back.
When we returned he was dozing off. I tried to wake him but it didn’t work. That’s when I picked up his phone and started going through it. That’s when I listened to an audio conversation they had about me.
The things I heard in it really broke me and that’s what made me cut off his genitals. I then took him and put him in the bathroom in our room and gave him a bath because of the blood that stained him.
I did this to him on Sunday around 11:00 AM, because he said he was going to get married — and not to me.
He knows we’ve been in a relationship for 6 years and we had even set a wedding date, but later it was called off.
After that I found someone else, and we also set a date, but then he interfered and said I definitely won’t marry that one.
Love for him consumed me, so I followed him and left the other one. But suddenly he came and told me he was going to get married, and then I heard that audio chat on his WhatsApp about me.
That’s what made me lose myself, I didn’t even know what to do. Then I remembered I had brought a knife with me all the way from Maigatari. So I just used it and cut off his genitals."
