Halima Dangote, the daughter of Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, has revealed that her father has set aside one-third of his wealth for humanitarian causes as part of his succession plan.
Halima, who is a trustee of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, told Bloomberg that Dangote has secured his family's approval for this arrangement to ensure that charitable works will continue to benefit future generations.
She said Dangote has already outlined a plan for the foundation to focus more on health and education, allocating a significant portion of his wealth to support humanitarian projects.
According to her, this is structured in line with Islamic law provisions, which allow a person to allocate one-third of their wealth through a will for charitable deeds.
Halima added that giving back to the community is an important part of their family's mission, and they see their business success as linked to public assistance.
The Aliko Dangote Foundation, established in 1994, carries out activities in health, education, nutrition, and humanitarian aid, with most of its work taking place in Nigeria, while also supporting other African countries.
Earlier this year, TIME magazine named Aliko Dangote among the world's top philanthropists, noting that his foundation spends over 50 billion Naira annually on charitable activities across the African continent.
