The Oluwo of Iwo in Osun State, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has called for an end to associating bandits with Islam, stating that criminals have no religion.
In a statement he issued, the monarch said wearing a turban or using an Arabic name does not prove that a person is Muslim.
He added that bandits do not observe Muslim prayers or other acts of worship required of Muslims.
He also explained that Arabic is not exclusive to Muslims, as there are followers of other religions who speak it in Arab countries.
Oba Akanbi said the insecurity and activities of bandits are a result of the failures of past governments, not Islam. He also urged the government to take legal action against those who use social media to tarnish the image of Muslims by associating the religion with terrorist activities.
