Story of How Nigerian Army Troops Rescued the Wife of Retired General Rabe

She told us that shortly after her husband's death, the gunmen who had held her captive were thrown into a state of intense panic and confusion.

General Rabe's Wife

Not long after, they brought out motorcycles and began making preparations for a hasty escape. They lifted her onto one of the motorcycles and fled from the location where they had been keeping her, her husband, and others in captivity. From all indications, they showed far more interest in her than in the other hostages, as they made no attempt to take the rest of the people with them.

According to her, as the gunmen sped through the bush on their motorcycles to avoid confrontation with soldiers, they began to hear the sound of gunfire in the distance.

She said this caused disarray among them, and they scattered in different directions instead of continuing their journey together.

"Furthermore, she said the man who was carrying her on his motorcycle became angry and stopped on the way. He forced her to get down from the motorcycle and, likely out of frustration, shot her in the thigh before fleeing."

The source said the General's wife was bleeding profusely as she endured severe pain.

She could neither stand nor walk due to the gunshot wound. It was in this condition that a man from a nearby village came to where she was," the source said, based on what she told them.

He added:

According to Hajiya Amina, the man asked her what had happened, and she told him about her ordeal. At the time, she was terrified, gasping for breath, and drenched in sweat.

Then the man asked her, 'Are you the wife of General Rabe?' She answered him yes.

She said while the man was trying to help her, they heard the sound of gunfire, which was believed to be from soldiers who were coming to search the area for her.

Because of this, the man ran away to save his life. She said within a few minutes, soldiers arrived at the spot and found her lying in a pool of blood," the source said.

The source said the scene immediately turned into a joyful one after the soldiers discovered that she was the wife of General Rabe.

She added that Hajiya Amina told them that it was at that moment that the man who had first found her returned to the spot.

We were told that the soldiers had nothing with them but their rifles, so they asked the man to bring a piece of wood. They then placed the General's wife on it and carried her to their vehicle, rushed her to a hospital in a neighboring town, where she was given emergency treatment before later being transferred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Katsina," he said.

It was also revealed that the bullet wound Hajiya Amina sustained was not life-threatening, as the bullet did not break her thigh bone.

The bullet pierced the flesh of her upper leg, between her hip and knee. However, even that could have been fatal due to the excessive amount of blood she was losing," the source said.
