New satellite images show that Israel is continuing to build and expand military positions across the Gaza Strip, raising concerns about a possible long-term military presence in the territory.
An investigation using satellite imagery from Planet Labs and Sentinel Hub reportedly identified around 40 military sites that have either been newly constructed or significantly expanded by Israeli forces in Gaza.
The images show fortified positions, military roads, earth barriers, trenches, watchtowers, and infrastructure that analysts say could support semi-permanent or long-term deployments.
Satellite data also indicates increased military construction activity in areas including Gaza City, Khan Younis, Rafah, and parts of central Gaza, where large sections of land and buildings have reportedly been cleared.
Human rights organizations and regional analysts say the developments may suggest plans for extended Israeli control over parts of Gaza following the ongoing conflict.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously stated that Israeli forces aim to expand security control over large parts of Gaza to prevent future attacks by Hamas.
However, Hamas and several international groups have criticized the move, accusing Israel of attempting to establish a new form of occupation and force displacement of Palestinians from their communities.
The conflict in Gaza continues to cause widespread destruction and a severe humanitarian crisis, with millions of Palestinians facing displacement, shortages of food and water, and limited access to medical care.
