The NDLEA State Commander, Rufus Aina, made this known in Ado Ekiti during the commemoration of the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

He said the agency successfully prosecuted 50 individuals who have been convicted, while other cases are still before the Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti.

Aina stated that cannabis cultivation in various parts of the state continues to pose a major challenge, warning that drug trafficking and use lead to crime, insecurity, school dropout, and the destruction of community life.

He added that over the past year, the agency conducted 76 sensitization campaigns and 15 radio and television programs, as well as provided counseling and treatment to 87 individuals with drug use disorders.

Furthermore, he disclosed that drugs weighing 6,337.517 kilograms were recovered, while one Osho Akindele was sentenced to 20 years in prison for drug-related offenses.

The Commander also revealed that two elderly persons, aged 78 and 80, were arrested on suspicion of drug possession and trafficking, and called on communities to collaborate with law enforcement agencies in the fight against the drug problem.
