Kim Jong Un Calls for ‘Exponential’ Expansion of Nuclear Arsenal

The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, has called for a major expansion of the country’s nuclear weapons program, describing the planned buildup as “exponential.”

According to state media reports, Kim made the remarks during a high-level security meeting, where he stressed the need to rapidly increase North Korea’s nuclear capabilities in response to what he described as external threats.

He reportedly ordered military and defense scientists to accelerate the development of nuclear weapons systems, improve delivery capabilities, and significantly expand the country’s nuclear arsenal.

The announcement comes amid rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula, with South Korea and its allies, including the United States, continuing joint military exercises in the region.

Analysts say Kim’s statement is likely to heighten concerns in Washington and regional capitals, as it signals a more aggressive posture from Pyongyang regarding its nuclear program.

North Korea remains under extensive international sanctions due to its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, but it has continued weapons testing and development in recent years.

Western governments have repeatedly called for North Korea to abandon its nuclear program, warning that continued expansion increases the risk of regional instability. Pyongyang, however, maintains that its nuclear weapons are necessary for self-defense.
