An Israeli drone strike has killed a young Palestinian girl in an area designated as a safe zone in al-Mawasi, according to Palestinian medical officials. The attack also killed another person and injured several others after tents sheltering displaced families were hit.
The strike took place in the al-Mawasi area near Khan Younis, where thousands of displaced Palestinians have sought refuge. Rescue workers and medical teams rushed to the scene to evacuate the dead and wounded.
The Israeli military said it had targeted a Hamas militant in the area but did not provide further details. Palestinian officials said the victims were civilians who had been staying in tents inside the designated safe zone.
The latest strike comes despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce violence in Gaza, where hostilities have continued with near-daily airstrikes and shelling. Aid agencies have repeatedly warned that civilians, especially displaced families, remain at significant risk even in areas previously identified as safe.
