Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that its forces launched missile and drone strikes on a US military base and the headquarters of the Fifth Fleet naval force.
In a statement, the IRGC said the action followed what it described as a US attack on an Iranian tanker near the Strait of Hormuz, which caused damage to the vessel's engine compartment.
It further stated that after a US strike on a communications facility on Qeshm Island, its aerial forces attacked a US military base in another country in the region, as well as the Fifth Fleet's command center.
The statement warned that any threat to security in the Strait of Hormuz would face a severe response from Iran.
