The Nigerian police have reported that bandits abducted some students of the Federal College of Technology located in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, in the northwestern part of the country.
The seven students were kidnapped in the early hours of yesterday, Wednesday, from the house where they were residing in the area.
The state police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, said in a statement that the attackers broke into the students' residence and took some of them hostage.
The statement added that security forces and military personnel deployed in the area were alerted, but the bandits had already fled before security agents arrived.
"One of the kidnapped students managed to escape and has since been handed over to the authorities, while efforts continue to locate the remaining six individuals," the statement said.
Reports indicate that security forces have launched a manhunt to track down the bandits, but so far no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Zamfara State, along with its neighboring states of Kebbi and Katsina, has seen a rise in attacks recently due to banditry activities.
