A Global Rupture: Carney Calls for Canada–EU Unity Ahead of G7 Summit

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has called for stronger cooperation between Canada and the European Union, warning of what he described as a “global rupture” in international relations and the world economy ahead of the upcoming G7 Summit.

Speaking before the summit, Carney said that growing geopolitical tensions, trade disputes, security challenges, and economic uncertainty require closer coordination among democratic allies.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between Canada and European countries in areas such as trade, defence, energy security, climate policy, and technological innovation.

Carney argued that the international order is facing significant pressure from ongoing conflicts, increasing protectionism, and competition among major global powers. He said democratic nations must work together to defend shared values and maintain global stability.

The Canadian leader also stressed the need for joint action on economic growth, supply-chain resilience, and support for countries affected by conflicts and economic disruptions.

European leaders welcomed calls for deeper cooperation, noting that Canada and the European Union already maintain strong political and economic ties through existing agreements and partnerships.

The remarks come as world leaders prepare for discussions on global security, trade, climate change, and international conflicts at the G7 summit, where unity among Western allies is expected to be a major theme.

Analysts say Carney's comments reflect growing concerns among policymakers about the changing global landscape and the need for closer cooperation among like-minded nations in response to emerging challenges.
