Clash Between Student’s Father and Lecturer at Maryam Abacha University After Student Insults Lecturer

A heated confrontation broke out at the Maryam Abacha American University in Kano between a lecturer and the father of a female student after the lecturer reportedly disciplined the student for an undisclosed offense.

Clash

According to reports by Hausa Daily Times, the student’s father stormed the university premises and followed the lecturer into an examination hall, where he verbally assaulted him. It was alleged that the student had called her father to come to the school after being punished by the lecturer.

A source familiar with the matter, Dr. Zahraddeen Yusuf Ata, revealed details of the incident on his Facebook page.

In a short video circulating on social media, the student was heard saying to the lecturer: “We don’t attend this school for free! We pay money, yet you keep humiliating us and making things difficult every day. Why?”

The statement has sparked widespread reactions online, particularly from educators who condemned the student’s attitude, noting that such behavior is becoming increasingly common among students in private institutions.

Education experts have described the father’s action - entering the university examination hall and publicly insulting a lecturer - as a violation of university regulations and the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) code of conduct.

They have urged the management of Maryam Abacha American University to take strict disciplinary action against both the student and her father to protect the integrity and reputation of the institution and its staff.
